We Lived A Different Kind Of Life
by: Denis Kucharski
We lived a different kind of life
One a little bit beyond the pale
Never quite encapsulated in words
Beyond convention's reach
We found a gentle niche
Left untrammelled by Man
Outside judgment's reach
We held each other
In a hearth of love
And tender devotion.
It was cancer that broke that bond
And left me now,
Frightened and alone
Eyes wide open
Heart exposed
Freezing in the wilderness
Waiting for the elements
To render me utterly
elemental.
Another soul ground up
By time's cruel devise.
